The Thomas Griffin Endowment

About the 42nd Highlanders

Formed in 1975 in Lafayette, Indiana by Captain Thomas Griffin to preserve the history and music of the Highland Regiments, the 42nd Royal Highlanders Band of Music portrays the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment (The Black Watch) of the American Revolution.

Today, the 42nd Royal Highlanders Band of Music is America's premier 18th century band of pipes, fifes, and drums, and has performed for audiences across the country, from the New England coast to the Mississippi River.

The 42nd serves as the Scottish society for the Lafayette, Indiana, area, hosting events promoting Scottish culture. Speakers, whisky tastings, film series, golf outings, concerts, and an annual Robert Burns Supper are all Scottish-interest events that have been sponsored by the 42nd.

About the Endowment

Created by a donation of the estate of Thomas Griffin's mother, Helen, in memory of her son, the Thomas Griffin Endowment for the 42nd Royal Highlanders provides operating support to the programs of the 42nd Royal Highlanders.

Managed by the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette, the Thomas Griffin Endowment is managed together with funds of 121 other Lafayette-area charitable and arts organizations, including the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, the Bach Chorale Singers, Tippecanoe County Historical Association, Tippecanoe Arts Federation, Civic Theater, and the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra.

Funds are accounted for separately, commingled for investment purposes, and managed professionally.
